Take your medicine!

Psalm 94:19 – When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul.

We do not yet have a cure for the coronavirus, but God has provided His people with a remedy when anxiety infects our souls. As a matter of fact, the psalmist testifies that anxiety of the soul can be replaced with delight of the soul by the Lord’s consolations.

The Lord has effective consolations against whatever would torment our souls with anxiety. How then do we fail to avail ourselves of them?

As any good medicine must be taken by the sufferer in order to be effective, and it must be the right prescription for the malady, so with experiencing the Lord’s consolations. Psalm after psalm we see examples of this. The various psalmists voice to the Great Physician the anxious thoughts multiplying within them, go to the pharmacy of His Word to received the consoling gospel truth(s) He has prescribed for their ailment of soul, and which Christ has purchased for them, and they drink it down. So often we see their expressions of instant relief. But when the condition persists, they are welcome to imbibe the cordial as often as needed, for the Lord’s prescriptions are entirely wholesome.

What strain of anxiety virus is afflicting you today? Why put up with the misery?! Tell it to Jesus. Go to His Word. Receive the consolation He has provided, at infinite cost to Himself, for your ailment of soul. Be delighted. Repeat as often needed. Today!
